Mapping where to study infrastructure resilience

For those interested in studying infrastructure-related resilience, there are opportunities world-wide to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate education. For a relatively new academic subject, the choices are extensive with many reputed academic establishments now offering a range of generalist and specialist courses.

It is encouraging to see this growth in offering since the initial agenda-setting research conducted for the Resilience Shift in 2017 by Roland Kupers and Mark Foden: Learning for Resilience and Complex Systems Thinking.

As part of research into ways to improve infrastructure resilience, we carried out some desk-based research this year (Jan-April 2019) into selected further undergraduate and postgraduate education opportunities world-wide. We are sharing our findings in a global map and will be adding more information to this as it is collected (in particular we’ll be looking at professional development).

This is not a definitive list of resilience-related infrastructure courses but rather a starting point for a resource of resilience-related infrastructure education specialisations, departments and courses.

We intend to develop this resource to identify and connect resilience expertise, research and practice in universities and to facilitate cooperation and sharing between them, contributing to the total global resilience knowledge base.

We welcome external contributions on courses and developments for consideration as this resource continues to grow. Email us at info@resilienceshift.org.
